Environmental Project Coordinator

Job Description

Nor-Alta Environmental Services Ltd. is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Environmental Project Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental science and possess excellent analytical skills. This role involves reporting, data analysis, laboratory result interpretation, and milestone and deliverables tracking to support environmental projects. The Project Coordinator will work collaboratively with other professionals to assess environmental conditions and develop strategies for reclamation, remediation, environmental assessments, and drilling waste management projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with components of project management that include preparing and tracking deliverables, client communication, report preparation, cost tracking, and guidance of junior staff.
  • Interpret field notes and laboratory analytical results to assess environmental conditions.
  • Collect and interpret laboratory data for various sampling matrices including soil, water, and air.
  • Utilize GIS software such as ArcGIS for mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Perform research to support environmental assessments and compliance with regulations.
  • Develop reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on various environmental projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of data collection and analysis processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS) for data visualization and mapping.
  • Experience with laboratory data analysis and interpretation is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with field screening techniques and equipment.
  • Excellent research skills with the ability to analyze complex datasets effectively.
  • Mechanical knowledge related to environmental field equipment is beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team across various environmental departments.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with related post-secondary education and eligibility with a professional institution or association (ie. AIA, ASPB, APEGA, etc.)

Environmental Technician/Scientist - Field

Job Description

Nor-Alta Environmental Services is currently seeking an Field Environmental Technician/Scientist to join our team based out of Edmonton, Alberta. The successful applicants will be responsible for providing field services to our clients on a variety of reclamation, remediation, environmental assessments, and drilling waste management projects. This position may include some office work (report writing, etc.) as well. Preference will be given to applicants with related post-secondary education and eligibility with a professional institution or association (ie. AIA, ASPB, APEGA, etc.)

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining detailed and exceptional field notes.
  • Collecting soil and groundwater samples.
  • Completing soil and vegetation field identification.
  • Collecting drilling waste samples.
  • Completing field testing of soils and drilling waste.
  • Completing fieldwork as assigned under the supervision of our Project Managers.
  • Completing various report writing tasks (report compilation and data entry; GIS work) as assigned under the supervision of a more experienced scientist or technical writer.
  • Working efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
  • Ensuring consistent and diligent representation of Nor-Alta in all communications with clients, landowners, and regulators.
  • Reviewing, comprehending, and applying Nor-Alta Standard Operating Procedures on an on-going basis.
  • Conducting work tasks as requested by management in an efficient manner which adheres to all applicable industry standards, company policies and procedures, client health and safety requirements, and regulatory requirements.

Please note this position includes travel.

Required Experience

  • A diploma or bachelor’s degree in sciences, environmental studies, or other applicable programs.
  • A strong working knowledge of computers and relevant software (Microsoft Office).
  • A strong working knowledge of industry standard technology (GPS, Digital Cameras, etc.).
  • Willing to travel for field work year-round with the potential for extended trips.
  • Willing and capable of daily manual labor.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A Class 5 Driver’s license is required.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with relevant experience through previous work or school.
